Child Safety Policy

Darwen Mosque is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who attend our mosque. This policy outlines our approach to ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

1. Our Commitment

  • To provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all children.
  • To ensure all staff and volunteers understand their safeguarding responsibilities.
  • To work with families and relevant agencies to promote child wellbeing.

2. Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO): Oversees implementation of this policy and acts as the first point of contact for concerns.
  • Staff and Volunteers: Must undergo DBS checks and safeguarding training.
  • Parents/Guardians: Are encouraged to raise concerns and support the policy.

3. Code of Conduct

  • Children must be supervised at all times while on mosque premises.
  • Appropriate physical boundaries and respectful language must be maintained at all times.
  • Private one-on-one interactions between adults and children should be avoided.

4. Reporting Concerns

Any concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing must be reported immediately to the DSO. All reports will be taken seriously and handled confidentially.

5. Review and Monitoring

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes in legislation or concerns arise. Feedback from parents, children, and staff will inform updates.
